Discussed during the 59th episode of The Porter Way Podcast, Porter said he felt "humbled" by how fans pointed out the similarities in their fighting style and approach.

"He (Sultan) gets my blessing I want him to find his own name and find his own way and hopefully, those Filipinos looking at him that Sultan style, not Shawn Porter style. Y'know what I'm saying?" said Porter.

"And again, I'm very humbled he would think that, his coach, his team would think that. He gets my blessing because he went in there and he puts it down and he's not playing no games. He's a fighter, he's got power in both hands."

Sultan recently pulled off an upset win over Puerto Rican knockout artist Carlos Caraballo, hammering out four knockdowns to capture the WBO Intercontinental bantamweight title in New York.

Sultan won for the third straight time and improved to an 18-5 record on top of 11 KOs while Caraballo suffered the first loss of his four-year professional boxing career with 14 wins all coming from KOs.

Porter added that the impressive showing of Filipinos, Sultan included, will put more excitement to the professional boxing scene.

"I just think that people would wanna see excitement with Manny just now retiring. So y'know, people are gonna be looking for the Philippines now who's next," he added.

Prior to the match against Caraballo, Sultan already met Porter at the Wild Card Gym with fellow Filipino boxers Jerwin Ancajas and Mark Magsayo.

Meanwhile, Porter is gearing up for WBO champion Terence Crawford on November 20. (Carlo Anolin) ###
