Robredo inks MOA for hospital assistance during Negros Occidental visit


BACOLOD CITY – Negrenses clad in pink warmly welcomed Vice President Leni Robredo during her visit in Negros Occidental on Friday, Nov. 5.

Robredo, who is running for presidency in the May 2022 polls, arrived in the province during the commemoration of the 123rd Cinco de Noviembre, which is about the patriotism, bravery, and courage of thousands of Negrenses who fought for freedom.

Robredo, along with vice presidential aspirant Senator Francis Pangilinan, went to the Provincial Capitol here, where they met Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson.

Robredo and Lacson signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Office of the Vice President and the provincial government for a fund transfer of P500,000 to Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, which shall be used for providing medical assistance to eligible clients through medical assistance grants.

The MOA was signed in the presence of Pangilinan, provincial officials, Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, and TLJPH Hospital Chief, Dr. Mary Ann Maestral, and Hospital Operations Department Chief, Dr. Girlie Pinongan.

The agreement shall be effective until December 31, 2021 or until full utilization of the fund, which comes sooner.

The medical assistance program of the Office of the Vice President supplements other government healthcare programs that assist the poor, marginalized, vulnerable, and disadvantaged individuals.

Robredo and Pangilinan also met with Bishop Patricio Buzon of the Diocese of Bacolod and had a closed door meeting with him.

Robredo, during a press briefing at Acacia Hotel here, said the bishop assured her that the Diocese is ready to help address prevailing issues related to election which includes propaganda and misinformation that might affect how people would decide.

The vice president said the Diocese committed that it will be very active in helping people discern based on the right information.

“It was a very candid conversation and comforting,” she added.

Meanwhile, Robredo and Pangilinan also graced the blessing and inauguration of the Leni-Kiko Negros headquarters here on Saturday.

She also met with the members of Murcia Women Association - LNK, a recipient of her office’s sustainable livelihood program in Barangay Dumpsite, Murcia town, where they launched “Palugaw ni Leni,” on the same day.
