CEBU CITY — If his visit to Cebu, the most vote-rich province in the country was any indication, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno could look forward to a promising outcome in his presidential bid.
Moreno on Friday, November 5, was warmly welcomed in the first day of his two-day Cebu sojourn.
It was also during the visit that Moreno was informed that he is being strongly considered by the dominant political party One Cebu to become its presidential candidate for the 2022 elections.
"He is one of those being strongly considered by the party," said One Cebu Secretary General and Cebu 3rd District Rep. Pablo John Garcia.
One Cebu has previously announced that it will only decide on its national candidates and alliances after the deadline of substitution of candidates on November 15.
Garcia accompanied Moreno when he visited the towns of Barili, Dumanjug and Moalboal.
While no official endorsement was made, Garcia, brother of Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, was all praises for Moreno.
Garcia said that while other presidentiables just "parachuted" in Cebu, Moreno really went around and spent time with various sectors.
"He is the only presidential aspirants who really took the time to get and listen to the sectors that were badly hit by the pandemic," said Garcia.
Garcia described Moreno as someone "who will listen what works and what doesn't work and what needs to be fixed."
"He is the only presidentiable to do this, to really listen to the concerns," said Garcia.
Among the presidential bets who visited Cebu ahead of Moreno were Senator Manny Pacquiao and Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
Garcia also praised Moreno for his plans on how to help the country recover from ill-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
