The Taguig City government started vaccinating minors 12 to 17 years old without comorbidities on Tuesday.
About 1,000 minors were vaccinated in different sites in Taguig. The Taguig City Vaccination Task Force had earlier announced that minors without comorbidities, Taguig residents or those studying in Taguig, would be vaccinated at Lakeshore Hall and Bonifacio High Street sites.
Medical Center Taguig is the sole venue for the vaccination of minors with comorbidities in Taguig.
Taguig launched the vaccination of minors with comorbidities on Oct. 25 at St. Luke’s Medical Center-Global City while Medical Center Taguig followed on Oct. 26.
Based on the 2015 Census of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Taguig has 86,972 minors aged 12 to 17 years old.
Comorbidities allowed for the vaccination of minors, classified as Pediatric A3, are medical complexity, genetic conditions, neurologic conditions, metabolic/endocrine diseases, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, HIV infections, tuberculosis, chronic respiratory diseases, renal disorder, hepatobiliary diseases and immunocompromised state due to disease or treatment.
The task force said vaccination sites in Taguig will not entertain walk-in vaccination for minors and that all minors aged 12 to 17 years old are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian on vaccination day.
The scheduling of vaccination appointments for minors can be done through the Taguig TRACE (Taguig Registry for Access and Citizen Engagement) app while group scheduling can be done through barangay health centers.
The country's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had earlier approved the use of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines for 12 years old and above.
