The Department of Education (DepEd) expressed readiness to hold the pilot implementation of limited face-to-face classes in public schools located in low or minimal risk areas nationwide starting this month.
“Magandang balita, sa wakas, ipagpatuloy na natin ang ating limited face-to-face classes (This is good news, finally, we are able to continue our limited face-to-face classes),” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said during the Laging Handa public briefing on Wednesday, Nov. 3.
“All set na for Nov. 15, nabuo na natin yung 100 public schools (We’re all set for Nov. 15, we have completed our 100 public schools),” Briones said.

Based on the target of DepEd and DOH, a total of 95 public elementary schools, five Senior High Schools (SHS) and 20 private elementary schools will be included in the pilot face-to-face classes.
For private schools, Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma said that the final list has not yet been completed.
Currently, Garma said that there were 57 private schools that have been “submitted for evaluation.” DepEd hopes to finalize the list of 20 participating private schools by Nov. 12.
DepEd earlier said that the pilot run of face-to-face classes is scheduled to start on Nov. 22.
The 100 identified schools were selected from 638 nominated schools for the pilot implementation of face-to-face classes that will begin on Nov. 15 based on the recommendation of the DOH to DepEd.
To allay the concerns of parents and other stakeholders, DepEd said that selected schools were thoroughly evaluated by the DOH Epidemiology Bureau and identified as minimal or low risk, based on the Alert Levels of the provinces, highly urbanized cities (HUCs), independent component cities (ICCs) and risk categories of the municipality and city.
