DOST XI to hold 3-day virtual Regional Science and Technology Week celebration

DAVAO CITY — The Department of Science and Technology XI (DOST XI) will hold a three-day virtual celebration of the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) by showcasing webinars on COVID-19 initiatives, food, health care and wildlife preservation starting Wednesday, Nov. 3.

In a statement on Tuesday, Nov. 2, DOST XI Regional Director Dr. Anthony C. Sales encouraged Dabawenyos to participate in the virtual RSTW from November 3 to 5 via Facebook live and Zoom.

“I encourage Dabawenyos to join us in the annual S&T celebration and take this as an opportunity to learn more about the contributions of science, technology, and innovation to the national and local development," Sales said.

With the theme "Agham at Teknolohiya: Tugon sa Hamon ng Panahon,” the RSTW 2021 in Davao region will have an online launching at 9:00 A.M Wednesday.

On the first day of the RSTW 2021, DOST Chocolatier and Provincial Science and Technology Center - Bohol Director, Vina Antopina will share about the basics in processing and making chocolates. The webinar is open to chocolate producers and processors, cacao farmers, local government units and civil society organizations who are in the cacao industry.

On Thursday, Nov. 4, the DOST XI will hold a webinar on the conservation initiatives for the Philippine Eagle amid the pandemic. The webinar is open to the public.

On the same day, Dr. Rentor Cafino, medical officer and chief resident of the Zamboanga City Medical Center – Department of Ears, Nose, Throat - Head and Neck Surgery, will hold a webinar on additive manufacturing on medical applications. The webinar is open to health care professionals and medical students.

On the last day of the RSTW 2021, Dr. Lyre Anni Murao of the Philippine Genome Center and Dr. May Anne Mata of the Center for Applied Modelling, Data Analytics, and Bioinformatics for Decision Support Systems in Health will hold a webinar on DOST-developed technologies, projects, and initiatives in response to the pandemic.

The activity is a pre-event to the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) celebration on November 22-28, 2021.
