T1 continued to roll as it swept Team Aster, 2-0, while Evil Geniuses held its own against the two-time defending champions OG to start Day 3 of The International in Bucharest, Romania on Saturday, October 9.
Riding the momentum of its Day 2 performance, T1 wasted no time and made quick work of Team Aster to score its second sweep of the tournament. EG, on the other hand, rekindled its rivalry with OG and stood its ground against the reigning champions to pull off a 1-1 draw.
Karl “Karl” Jayme was making the most of his first TI appearance, leading the charge once again for T1 in the dominant two-game sweep.
Karl on his signature heroes Lina and Queen of Pain was the biggest torn to the side of Aster after putting up 10-5-4 and 9-2-14 performance on the respective heroes. The Filipino wunderkind did the heavy lifting for T1 to help the South Korea-based squad hack out a 26-22 victory in Game 1.
His teammates then came alive in Game 2 as they survived a blistering game from Du "Monet" Peng who scored a team-high 12-2-7 KDA to carry his team. But Karl, together with Nuengnara “23Savage” Teeramahanon who finished with an 8-5-15 on his Monkey King, shut the door to the Chinese squad and finished Game 2 in a 28-22 tally.
Meanwhile, the Abed “Abed” Yusop-led Evil Geniuses split its series against rival OG, 1-1.
It was the defending champions who drew first blood in the series with Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan leading the way for OG with a neat 7-0-3 KDA to take a swift 16-10 victory in just 21 minutes of play.
EG, though, returned the favor in Game 2 as it squeezed a tight 31-27 victory in Game 2 behind Abed’s 9-3-19 KDA on his Ember Spirit and Artour “Arteezy” Babaev’s 14-5-9 KDA on his Ursa.
EG made the plays down the stretch to survive a huge Game 2 from the OG’s duo of Sumail and Topias Miikka "Topson" Taavitsainen.
Sumail on his Faceless Void paced the champions with 7-5-12 stat line while Topson on the Gyrocopter added 11-4-6 on a losing effort.
