NDRRMC calls for vigilance as 2 typhoons seen to 'combine' inside PAR
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) urged the public on Saturday, Oct. 9, to prepare early for tropical storm "Maring" and tropical depression "Nando" which could possibly "combine" while inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

The NDRRMC held a pre-disaster assessment meeting where weather forecasters from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) warned that the two typhoons could join forces in the next 36 hours and bring strong rains and winds.
"Pinaaalalahanan ang publiko na mag-ingat, mag-antabay sa ulat panahon, at sumunod sa mga payo ng mga awtoridad ngayong posibleng magsanib sa loob ng 36 oras ang Tropical Storm 'Maring' at Tropical Depression 'Nando' (We urged the public to take care, wait for weather reports, and obey the advice of the authorities now that there is a possibility that Tropical Storm 'Maring' and Tropical Depression 'Nando' could possibly combine in the next 36 hours)," the NDRRMC said in a statement.
During the meeting, Jalad reminded the affected areas to prepare for possible flooding and landslide especially in highly susceptible areas.
Maring was spotted around 860 kilomteres east of Juban, Sorsogon around 8 a.m. while moving at a speed of 15 km per hour. It was packing a maximum sustained winds of 85 km per hour and gustiness of up to 105 km per hour.
Meanwhile, Nando was seen around 670 km in Casiguran, Aurora while moving at a speed of 45 km per hour. It was packing a maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour andgustiness of up to 55 km per hour.
The two typhoons are expected to bring moderate to strong rainfall in Eastern Visayas and Dinagat Islands, and light to moderate with at times strong rainfall in
Bicol Region and the remaining parts of Visayas and Caraga in the next 24 hours.
Light to moderate and at times strong rain will also be experienced in Palawan and Occidental Mindoro due to southwesterlies which is enhanced by Maring.
The NDRRMC issued guidelines and protocols to their counterparts in the affected regions to ensure the dissemination of warnings and advice to residents, prepare the stockpiling of resources, and activate the response clusters for possible deployment.
"Patuloy ang pagantabay at koordinasyon ng NDRRMC sa mga katuwang sa rehiyong apektado ng mga bagyo (The NDRRMC is continuously monitoring and coordinating with its counterparts in the regions affected by the typhoons)," the NDRRMC noted.
