Vice President Leni Robredo will reveal the opposition’s full slate of senatorial candidates for the 2022 elections next week, her spokesperson Barry Gutierrez said.

“Mayroon na siyang ilang mga unang kabahagi noong kaniyang senatorial slate, at umaasa tayo (They have some initial candidates who are part of her senatorial slate, and I’m hoping), next week, sa tamang panahon (at the right time) we will make the announcement kung sino pa iyong ibang kaniyang makakasama dito sa kampanyang ito (on the others who will be with us in this campaign),” he said in an interview with One PH.
The Vice President is running as an independent candidate, calling her “symbolic way” of showing unity.
She noted on Friday, Oct. 8 that her slate will not be filled with representatives from the once-ruling Liberal Party (LP), which she chairs.
While sharing that they are still “open to discussions” and that filling up their slate is “continuing,” Robredo assured that it is “not just composed of representatives from the Liberal Party".
She noted there will be “representatives from many different parties.”

Robredo said has the “free rein” from opposition coalition 1Sambayan to fill up her slate but she is keeping the group abreast of the discussions she’s having with other candidates.
For now, she confirmed the inclusion of Akbayan Senator Risa Hontiveros, Senator Leila de Lima, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno in her slate.
The slot supposedly for Senator Kiko Pangilinan, who will now run as Robredo’s vice president, was given to former Ifugao Rep. Teddy Baguilat Jr., LP’s vice president for internal affairs.
“I am here to represent the indigenous peoples, mga lumads at mga katutubo (lumads and natives),” he said after filing his certificate of candidacy (COC) at the Harbor Garden of Sofitel Manila on Friday.
If elected, Baguilat wants to push for the passage of the National Land Use Act, as well as a new law on mining and sustainable forest management.
Meanwhile, Trillanes also filed his COC on the same day after confirming that he will be part of Robredo’s slate.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Trillanes said he will continue his anti-corruption and governance reforms advocacy in the Senate, as well as measures on economic recovery, poverty alleviation, peace and order, security sector reforms, health care reforms, COVID-19 response, and education reforms.
He also wants to “assist the Robredo administration in making those officials who abused their power, especially in this time of pandemic, accountable through the oversight functions of the Senate".
“Above all, we must ensure that VP Leni will win as president to stop the destructive Duterte regime. After this, we can now start the rebuilding process for the country and that is the perfect role for future President Leni,” Trillanes added.
