DOH: Result of investigation on PRC's alleged 'false positives' out by Oct. 11

The Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) is set to release on Monday, Oct. 11, the result of its investigation on the alleged "false positive" coronavirus disease (COVID-19) test results from the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), the Department of Health (DOH) said.
This was revealed by DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III during an interview with DZBB radio on Sunday, Oct. 9.
“Ilalabas yan sa Lunes. Malalaman natin kung ano ba ang resulta noong assessment, evaluation ng RITM dito sa PRC laboratory sa Subic Bay (It will be released on Monday. We will know the result of the assessment, evaluation of the RITM here at the PRC laboratory in Subic Bay),” said Duque.
On Sept. 21, President Duterte ordered the DOH to look into the complaints he had received about the alleged inaccurate COVID-19 test results produced by PRC.
In a statement last month, the DOH said that the RT-PCR test is still considered as the gold standard in detecting the virus that causes COVID-19.
The DOH said “it is possible for test results from the same case collected at two different time points to vary.”
“ potentially due to the timing of specimen collection (depending on the clinical course of infection) and other possible sources of variation in the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases,” the DOH then said.
DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire in a press briefing also in September said that all laboratories in the Philippines that are conducting COVID-19 testing undergo ‘regular quality assurance’ checks to ensure the accuracy of the test results.
