DOH detects over 11K new COVID-19 cases; NCR's daily cases seen to further decrease by November

Another 11,010 individuals tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the Department of Health (DOH) reported on Saturday, Oct. 9.
The new figure raised the total number of infections since the start of the pandemic to 2,654,450, based on the DOH's latest case update.
Of the total case count, four percent or 106,558 were ill or active cases, 76.3 percent showed mild symptoms, 13.9 percent were asymptomatic, 5.64 percent were moderate, 2.9 percent are severe, and 1.2 percent are critical.
The DOH said it continues to observe a decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in the country.
DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that Metro Manila may also see fewer daily cases---which is expected to drop to 1,100 by November.
“So, if we will look at our daily cases, we will be averaging about 1,100 cases by Nov. 15 daily cases dito sa National Capital Region. Kung maipagpapatuloy po natin ang pagkontrol nitong transmission nitong sakit na ito (If we can continue to control the transmission of this disease),” said Vergeire.
Active cases in Metro Manila were at 24,400 as of Friday as 1,826 cases were added then, as shown in the DOH COVID-19 tracker.
Meanwhile, 22,529 new patients were added to the recovery count, which already reached 2,508,387.
The death toll, however, increased by 273 to 39,505. The country's case fatality rate was at 1.49 percent.
Vergeire reminded the public to remain vigilant as the threat of COVID-19 remains.
“This is not a point where we get complacent. Kailangan tuluy-tuloy pa rin po ang ating pagpuprotekta sa ating sarili at sa ating pamilya para hindi na po magtuluy-tuloy pa at magkaroon pa ng pagtaas ang ating mga kaso (We still need to continue to protect ourselves and our families so that our cases will not continue to increase),” she said.
