Broadcaster, ex-VP Noli de Castro seeks political comeback, files COC for senator

Broadcaster and former vice president Noli de Castro is seeking a political comeback in the May 2022 elections.

De Castro filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator at the Harbor Garden Tent, Sofitel Manila in Pasay City on Friday, Oct. 8.

The veteran broadcaster said he would push for the passage of the measures and resolutions he had filed when he was a senator.

“Iba ang paglilingkod kung ikaw ay nasa senado. Kapag ikaw ay gumagawa ng mga batas (The service is different if you are in the senate. When you create laws),” he said.

Moreover, de Castro said he wants the franchise of his home network, ABS-CBN, restored.

But he said that it is up to Congress to file the measure for the new franchise of the broadcast giant.

De Castro was first elected as senator in the 2001 election but he did not finish his term after winning the vice presidency three years later.

He is running under Manila Mayor Isko’s Aksyon Demokratiko party.

Most popularly known as “Kabayan,” de Castro returned to broadcasting in 2010 after his term ended.
