Willie Revillame gives up planned Senate run

Willie Revillame is not running in the upcoming elections.

The popular TV host said he has come to the decision after deep rationalization.

He would go on to relate how the whole thing started upon President Duterte's urging.

According to him, Duterte asked to meet him last March 16.

It was then that he was encouraged to seek for a senatorial position in the upcoming 2022 election.

"Since March, hanggang ngayon, pinag isipin ko pong mabuti. Pinag-aralan kong mabuti. Pinagdasal ko. Marami akong mga kaibigan na kinausap. Marami akong mga taong tinatanong, nagtanong-tanong, at pinapakiramdaman. Yung management, ordinaryong tao, kasama ko sa programa, lahat. All walks of life."

"Kinausap ko yung sarili ko, kailangan ikaw ang magdesisyon sa sarili mo, hindi yung ibang tao. Hindi yung opinyon nila, dapat kausapin mo yung sarili mo kung gusto mo ba to? Kaya mo ba yan? Anong gagawin mo diyan? I we-weight mo yan."

But apparently, Willie realized how "dirty" politics is.

"Sabi ko napakahirap pasukin ng isang bagay na ganito... Una sa lahat hindi naman ho ako nakapag tapos ng pag aaral. Ako po'y isang drummer lang na nagsimula na kumikita dati ng sekwenta pesos, otsenta pesos, 120 pesos. Kailangan mo lang mabuhay, makakain, bayad ng renta..."

Apparently, he talked to the President about five times.

He reiterated that Duterte was not forcing him to run, noting simply his "appeal sa masa."

"Lagi nilang sinasabi 'Tingin namin makakatulong ka, di ka gagawa ng masama, di ka mangko-corrupt.'"

"Kung sakali man tatakbo ako sa senado, di naman ako magaling mag-English, wala akong alam sa batas, baka ho laiit-laiitin lang ako dun ng ating mga mahal na Senador na magagaling... Siguro baka wala naman ako ma-i-ambag na batas. Baka dumating yung time na sayang din yung boto niyo sa akin; na wala din ako nagagawa, wala ako naambag na knowledge about the law dahil hindi ako abogado."

Willie reiterated how hard it is to be a public servant.

"Yung kaibigan mo ngayon, bukas kaaway mo na. Mag-ama nag aaway dahil sa position. Magasawa naglalaban dahil sa posisyon. Sayang ho ang buhay."

He then advised those aspiring for public office: "Dapat kung maglilingkod, tanggalin galit sa puso."

Later, Willie shared past experiences he had as TV host on GMA, as well as, the times he extended help to those in need.

He related: "Yan ho ang aking inspirasyon, yan ho ang aking buhay. Hindi ko ho yan ipagpapalit sa kahit anong posisyon sa gobyerno. "

"Ito pong COC, ito po ang aking Certificate of my Contract dito po sa GMA. I signed a contract para mag tuloy-tuloy po ang programang "Wowowin.""

"Sa araw na pong ito, tuloy-tuloy pa rin po ang "Wowowin." Hindi ko po kailangang kumandidato. Hindi ko po kailangan manalo. Ang kailangan ko ay makasama kayo."

Willie then thanked the President for "understanding" his decision.
