After filing her certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator on Wednesday, Oct.7, Rowena Awang called on Filipino voters to not vote for corrupt politicians in the May 2022 national elections.

Awang filed her COC for senator before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) at the Sofitel Tent in Pasay City. She is an independent candidate.
“Mga kababayan ko, be wise, be intelligent. Hindi bobo ang Pilipino, matatalino ang mga Pilipino kaya pumili kayo ng mga kandidatong tamang-tama na iluluklok ninyo. Hindi mambubutas, hindi mandurugas, kundi mambabatas (My countrymen, be wise, be intelligent. Filipinos are not stupid, Filipinos are smart so choose the right candidates for you to elect. Not a thief, not a cheater, but a legislator),” she said.
Awang stressed that corruption destroys a nation and hampers its progress.
Meanwhile, she advised voters to accept the bribes if they want but said that they should still vote for candidates who are deserving to be elected.
“Sige, kunin niyo ‘yung pera kung gusto niyo. Bakit malalaman ba ng kandidatong ‘yung kung hindi niyo siya binoto (Get the bribe money if you want. They will not know anayway if you voted for them),” Awang said.
The senatorial aspirant said that people must change their perspectives especially now that there is a pandemic.
“We need dignified and honest lawmakers,” she said
