Robredo's presidential bid receives terse reaction from Duterte spokesman

As expected, MalacaÃ±ang did not make a fuss over Vice President Leni Robredo's big announcement Thursday, Oct. 7 that she would vie for the presidency in the May 2022 polls.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque was asked to react on Robredo's announcement of her candidacy during the former's virtual press briefing.

"Well, it's the right of every Filipino to stand for public office," Roque said in a rather terse reply.

The Palace mouthpiece had given similar responses in previous briefings when asked about the declarations of other presidential wannabes, namely Senator Manny Pacquiao and Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso.

Robredo is the de facto opposition leader by virtue of her chairmanship of the once-ruling Liberal Party (LP).

In terms of survey numbers, the 56-year-old official has been lagging behind Pacquiao, Domagoso, former Senator Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos, Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

But Robredo has made it clear in the past that she isn't the type of candidate who gets intimidated by low survey figures.
