Pangilinan, De Lima hail VP Leni's May 2022 presidential bid

Opposition senators on Thursday, Oct. 7 hailed Vice President Leni Robredo’s decision to run for president in the May 2022 national elections, expressing their belief the Filipinos “deserve only the best.”

“Buong-buo kong sinusuportahan ang pagtakbo ni Leni sa pagkapangulo ng Pilipinas (I fully support Leni’s decision to run for the presidency). We, the Filipino people, deserve only the best,” Sen. Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, said in a statement.

“Saan ka pa? Walang masyadong pondo, pero umaapaw na tulong at gawa, lalo na ngayong pandemya (Why not? She doesn’t have funds, but she was able to prove so much she can help, especially during this time of a pandemic),” Pangilinan added.

“Sabi ni Leni, sama-sama tayong tumaya sa laban na ito. Tumataya tayo dahil ang laban ni Leni, laban ko, laban nating lahat (As Leni said, we are all in this fight. We all gamble because Leni’s fight is my fight, our fight),” the Liberal Party president further said.

Detained Senator Leila de Lima also said that despite the meager budget for her office and the marginalization and vilification she’s getting from the Duterte administration, Robredo has amazingly shown her mettle, moral courage, competence, and resourcefulness.

“All these years -- especially during the ongoing pandemic – VP Leni has demonstrated time and again her brand of proactive and compassionate leadership,” De Lima noted.

“In services and programs that she personally supervises on the ground, she has extended much needed assistance to our medical frontliners, workers, urban poor, rural communities and other disadvantaged groups,” she added.

De Lima also pointed out the Office of the Vice President has been consistently given outstanding reviews by the Commission on Audit (COA) in the past three years, showing how transparent and incorruptible she really is.

“Most importantly, VP Leni has the clearest vision – along with the good heart and the bright mind to match it – of where we ought to be: a better place and a brighter future, away from this national nightmare of the past five years. And she has the right character, the correct attitude, and the best tools that can take us there,” De Lima stressed.
