OCTA: Metro Manila could have less than 1K new cases daily by end of month

Metro Manila could have less than 1,000 new infections per day by the end of October, as the region’s COVID-19 trends improved further, the OCTA Research group said Thursday, Oct. 7.

OCTA fellow Prof. Guido David said the number of new cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) continued to drop as the seven-day average of fresh infections declined by 32 percent to 2,642.

The region’s reproduction number, which refers to the number of people that an infected individual can infect, also decreased to 0.67 from 0.88 the week before.

Moreover, the expert pointed out that positivity rate among those tested for the virus in the metropolis dropped to 14 percent from 18 percent the previous week.

“Based on current trends, the NCR could have 1,500 to below 1,000 new cases per day by end of October,” David said in a tweet.

The independent research group earlier reported that the nationwide reproduction number was at 0.76, indicating a continuous downward trend of cases in the country.

“New cases in the Philippines continued on a downward trend as the seven-day average dropped to 12,455, from Sept. 30 to Oct. 6,” David said in a tweet.

“The reproduction number decreased to 0.76 while the one-week growth rate was at -26 percent,” he added.
