Ex-VP Binay vies for Senate seat

Former Vice President Jejomar "Jojo" Binay on Thursday, Oct. 7, filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator in the May 2022 polls.

Binay will run under the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), the party he founded in 2016.

The former vice president said should he get elected as a senator, he will help Filipinos who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic recover.

"The first priority should be helping the four million Filipinos who lost their jobs, the over three million families who are experiencing hunger, and the thousands of small businesses who had no choice but to close down," Binay said.

"We should work to rebuild our economy in a way that puts priority on creating stable jobs. We should reform our healthcare system. And the safety, welfare, and well-being of the people should always be our foremost concern," he added.

Binay suffered defeat in the 2016 presidential race, finishing fourth despite being a survey frontrunner for months.
