COVID-positive ex-Defense Secretary Gibo Teodoro files COC for senator via authorized rep

Ending his 10-year political hiatus after losing in the 2010 presidential race, former Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator at the Sofitel Harbor Garden Tents in Pasay City on Thursday, Oct. 7.

Because he was tested positive for COVID-19, Teodoro said that he is currently isolating which is why his COC was filed by his authorized representative.

“My friends, heeding your valuable advice I filed my COC for Senator under the PRP of the revered Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago. I had to file by proxy because I am isolating due to a positive RT/PCR test, I am in good spirits,” he said in his Facebook post.

“I thank Hon. Narciso Santiago Jr. for giving me the privilege of running under the banner of the PRP. I thank Atty. Dianne who proxied for me,” Teodoro added.

Meanwhile, Teodoro thanked all his supporters that never abandoned him throughout the years.

“Lastly, to Nikki, Jaime, and the rest of my family for the support and encouragement through many years in changing circumstances. Let us unite for a Bagong Pilipinas para sa Bagong Henerasyon (New Philippines for the New Generation)!!! Sulong (Advance)!!!”

From 2007 to 2009, Teodoro served as Department of National Defense secretary under the administration of then-President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Prior to his cabinet stint, he served as a congressman from 1998 to 2007 as representative of the First District of Tarlac province.

In 1989, Teodoro who took Law at the University of the Philippines topped the Philippine Bar Examinations.

He earned a Masters in Law from the Harvard Law School in 1996. Then, Teodoro passed the New York State bar exams.
