Adiwang to face Brooks in ONE: NEXTGEN III

Team Lakay's strawweight contender Lito Adiwang will finally face American mixed martial arts icon Jarred Brooks in the third installment of ONE: NEXTGEN next month.

Both Team Lakay and ONE Championship confirmed the development on their respective announcements.

"For months, fan-favorite Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang and American phenom Jarred “The Monkey God” Brooks have been exchanging words in the media," wrote ONE Championship in its official website, hinting at a possible headliner for the two strawweight fighters.

"Now, the strawweight mixed martial artists will finally step into the Circle and settle their differences in Singapore."

Adiwang and Brooks were supposed to square off in April during the promotion's American television debut through its ONE on TNT series.

The Team Lakay stalwart, however, tested positive for COVID-19 alongside ONE newcomer and former BRAVE Combat Federation champion Stephen Loman and reigning strawweight king Joshua Pacio.

The 27-year-old Adiwang is coming from back-to-back victories against Japanese foe Namiki Kawahara in January and Chinese veteran Hexigetu last month to improve at 13-3 record.

Brooks, for his part, will showcase his talent in ONE Championship for the first time since competing previously in different promotions such as the UFC, Bellator, and Rizin.

The 28-year-old American contender currently owns a 16-2 record.

ONE Championship has yet to release the full cards for NEXTGEN II on Nov. 12 and NEXTGEN III on Nov. 26 but the first installment will be held on Oct. 29 to be headlined by a light heavyweight kickboxing title match against champion Roman Kryklia of Ukraine and Murat Aygun of the Netherlands and Turkey and the semifinals round of the women's atomweight grand prix.
