16 filers for president on Day 7 of COC filing

The seventh day of the filing of the certificates of candidacy (COC) for the May 2022 polls on Oct. 7 saw 16 aspirants for president, 7 for vice president, 28 for senator while 67 partylist groups submitted their certificates of nomination and acceptance (CONA).

The day was highlighted with the filing of Vice President Leni Robredo of her COC for president before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) at the Sofitel Tent in Pasay City.

She filed her COC hours after announcing her presidential bid.

Prominent figures who filed for senator include former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, human rights lawyers Chel Diokno and Neri Colmenares, former presidential aspirants Jejomar Binay and Gilbert Teodoro. Teodoro filed his COC via an authorized representative.

Some of the partylist groups that filed their CONAs include Bayan Muna, TUCP, Partido Lakas ng Masa and OFW Family.

The number of filers for national positions since Oct. 1 are the following: 57 for president, 16 for vice president, 92 for senator and 194 for partylist.

The COC filing will end on Oct. 8.
