Over 1M Pfizer COVID-19 jabs delivered to PH

A total of 1,015,560 doses of Pfizer vaccine against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were delivered to the country on Wednesday night, October 6.

Air Hong Kong flight LD456 initially landed on Cebu-Mactan International Airport around 6:35 p.m. to drop 76,050 doses -- the intended allocation for Visayas -- before it proceeded to Terminal 3 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) around 8:30 p.m. where it brought 862,290 doses which will be allocated for Luzon.

On Thursday morning, Philippine Air Lines flight PR 1181 will fly to Davao City to deliver the allocation for Mindanao consisted of 77,220 doses.

The National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 said the vaccines were part of the 40 million Pfizer shots which were procured by the national government for this year.

The United States government also donated 1,989,000 doses of Pfizer to the country via the COVAX facility. The shipment was equally distiributed to Visayas and Mindanao as Cebu and Davao each received 994,500 doses.

With the delivery, the total number of vaccines that have arrived in the country rose to 80,415,200 doses.

Of this, 47,778,751 doses have already been administered across the country as of Tuesday. There were 25,376,646 Filipinos that have received their first dose while 22,402,105 have been fully vaccinated.

NTF chief implementer and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. had said that the government will seek to vaccinate 80 to 90 percent or around 88 million to 99 million of the total 110 million population in the country before the 2022 elections to protect the voting population.

The target population was increased from the initial target of 70 percent or 77 million eligible population due to the threats of the more transmissible Delta variant that has spread in the country and caused recent surge in cases.
