NDRRMC validating at least 3 'Lannie' casualties in Capiz, Cebu

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) disclosed Wednesday, Oct. 6, that it was validating information about three reported casualties in Capiz and Cebu province due to tropical depression "Lannie."

"We received information about a drowning incident in Capiz and it's being validated by our counterparts," NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal told the Manila Bulletin.

The alleged victim was a 64-year-old man who reportedly drowned at the height of the bad weather in Dumalag, Capiz.

" ongoing validation to check if the death was related to Lannie," Timbal said.

Two other fatalities were being validated by the NDRRMC in Cebu province.

The Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said a 34-year-old Indian man drowned while trying to cross a river in Barangay Nangka, Consolacion town last Monday.

Neil Sanchez, head of Cebu PDRRMO, identified the victim as Valjinder Singh.

He reportedly was on a motorcycle with a woman companion, Jezil Natingga, when they were carried away by strong current while crossing a river.

Singh's body was reportedly recovered by the authorities in Barangay Latasan, Consolacion on Tuesday while Natingga survived.

A 13-year-old girl also reportedly drowned while swimming with her neighbors in Sitio Pungtod Dahunan, Carcar City, Cebu on Monday night.

Sanchez said Jan Kristel Encabo's body was recovered on Tuesday after she was swept away by big waves while swimming at sea.

Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said seven areas were still flooded in Mimaropa (Region 4B) and Western Visayas (Region 6). These were in Rizal, Palawan; and Jamindan, Capiz.

Five landslides were also recorded in Brgy. Taburi, Rizal, Palawan; Brgys. Pulang Bato, Sinsin, and Apas in Cebu City; and Brgy. Mapgap, Tomas Oppus in Southern Leyte.
