LPA east of S. Luzon may intensify into tropical depression by Friday or Saturday

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) is closely monitoring a low pressure area (LPA) east of Southern Luzon as it may develop into a tropical depression by Friday or Saturday, Oct. 8 or Oct. 9.

In its update on Wednesday, Oct. 6, PAGASA weather specialist Joey Figuracion said the LPA was located at 1,310 kilometers east of Southern Luzon at around 4 p.m.

He said the LPA may enter the Philippine area of responsibility between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, Oct. 7, and possibly become a tropical depression by Friday or Saturday.

PAGASA will be giving the next tropical cyclone inside the PAR the local name "Maring."

Based on the PAGASA's latest forecast track, Figuracion said the potential cyclone will likely move west-northwest toward northern Luzon.

However, he pointed out that there is still a "high uncertainty of landfall scenario for now."

Figuracion advised the public to continue monitoring updates that will be issued by PAGASA regarding this weather disturbance.

In the next 24 hours, PAGASA said the trough or extension of tropical depression "Lannie," which has left the PAR on Wednesday morning, may continue to bring scattered rain showers over Metro Manila, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.

Partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may prevail over the rest of the country.

PAGASA advised the public to take precautions against possible flash floods or landslides especially during the occurrence of severe thunderstorms, which are often accompanied by short-lived heavy rains.
