Joel Villanueva files COC, seeks re-election as senator

Senator Joel Villanueva, who is seeking re-election, filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) at the Sofitel Tent in Pasay City, Wednesday, Oct. 6,

After filing his COC for senator, Villanueva said that he has a perfect attendance in the Senate and has filed many bills and resolutions.

“Naghain po tayo at nagsumite ng 500 bills and resolutions at 82 dito ay ganap na batas na. Opo, Republic Acts na po ang Work from Home Law, Free Tuition Law, ang Doktor para sa Bayan Law, First Time Jobseekers Law, Tulong Trabaho Law at marami pang iba

(We have filed and submitted 500 bills and resolutions and 82 of them are now laws. Yes, these are now Republic Acts—the Work from Home Law, Free Tuition Law, Doctor for the People Law, First Time Jobseekers Law, Tulong Trabaho Law and many more),” he said.

Should he get elected anew, the senator has vowed to generate more jobs for Filipinos amid the pandemic.

“Nais po nating ipagpatuloy ang ating mga ginagawa. Lalong-lalo na po ngayon sapagkat naniniwala tayo at this point in time mas kailangan ng TESDAMAN sa Senado. Bakit? Dahil po sa pandemya ang kailangan ay tuloy-tuloy ang paggawa at paglikha ng trabaho (I want to continue what we are doing in the Senate. Especially now, I strongly believe that we need TESDAMAN in the Senate. Why? because of the pandemic, we need to continuously create and generate jobs),” he said

In the 2016 elections, Villanueva has ranked second highest in the polls for senator as he garnered a total of 18,459,222 votes.

Before becoming a senator, he was the director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for five years. He resigned from TESDA for his senatorial bid.
