Duterte wants to bring beef with Senate to Supreme Court

President Duterte raised the possibility of bringing his issues with the Senate to the Supreme Court in order to protect his Cabinet members from the "disrespect" they are getting from senators.

Duterte made the statement amid the Senate's ongoing probe on the government's controversial deal with pharmaceutical company Pharmally on coronavirus (COVID-19) supplies.

In his pre-recorded public address on Wednesday evening, October 6, the President said he wants to bring the matter to the Supreme Court to protect his Cabinet members.

"Eventually, I think, this will reach the Supreme Court. I am not saying that I am all correct. I may be wrong," he said.

"I have to protect the Executive Department from the incessant and steady dose of insults coming from the senators," he added.

According to Duterte, it does not matter to him if he will lose his case or not.

"Hindi man ako siguradong manalo doon, pero gusto ko lang makita ng Supreme Court ang pagkabastos ng mga senador (I may not win there, but I just want the Supreme Court to see how disrespectful these senators are)," he said.

"Yun lang naman ang habol ko doon. Manalo, matalo (That's all I want. Whether we win or not), we cannot speculate on that," he added.

The President reminded the Senate that their powers are not without limit.

"Yung pag-aakala lang nila na (They think) they are so powerful. That they can just-- at their beck and call-- people, to just sit down in front of them doing nothing," he said.
