A month after Batanes was ravaged by Typhoon “Kiko,” the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) continues to provide much needed aid to the communities affected.

The PRC is targeting to help 500 families who were severely affected by the typhoon from the municipalities of Basco, Uyugan, Mahatao, and Sabtang.

The humanitarian organization plans to distribute shelter tool kits, tarpaulins for use as temporary shelter, Jerry cans with water tablets for safe drinking water, solar lamps, and flashlights to the affected communities in the coming weeks.

Days after “Kiko” ravaged Batanes, the PRC immediately deployed relief items to the islands.

Through the instructions of PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon, non-food items were shipped to Batanes.

Additionally, the PRC Batanes Chapter also received a motorcycle, two portable generator units, and solar lamps for their chapter activities and typhoon operations.

“Ang pagtulong ng Red Cross ay hindi titigil sa pag-alis ng bagyo. Lalo pa tayong tutulong upang makabangon ang ating mga kababayan sa Batanes, kaagapay ninyo ang Philippine Red Cross sa inyong pagbangon (Red Cross will continue to help. We will continue helping our countrymen in Batanes to recover, the Philippine Red Cross is with you in your recovery),” said Gordon.

As of Oct. 4, PRC has already provided hot meals to 78 individuals involved in the clearing and repair operations of the electricity infrastructure as power lines went down during the typhoon.

There are also 15 families from the communities who were contracted to the food-for-work program of PRC.

These families are supporting the hauling of items for the recovery phase of PRC's operations.

In the coming weeks, the PRC intends to provide the most vulnerable families.
