PH Red Cross supports vaccination of minors vs COVID-19
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) expressed readiness to vaccinate children against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) once a written directive has been released.

“We will vaccinate whomever the government wants us to prioritize,” said PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard Gordon in a statement issued Tuesday, Oct. 5.
“We are just waiting for the written directive,” he added.
Gordon said in that he wanted children aged 12 to 17 years old to “get vaccinated now” as it will also add to the population cohort.
In September, President Duterte approved vaccination for the general population beginning October as recommended by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) as the government targets to resume face-to-face classes.
Meanwhile, Gordon expressed hope that “vaccine hesitancy will continue to decline now that the country receives a consistent supply of vaccines.”
Once PRC has a written directive from the government, PRC volunteers and staff will start vaccinating the children under the A3 category or persons with comorbidities.
“The best protection against COVID-19 is to get vaccinated,” Gordon said. “By being vaccinated, you will not only be able to take good care of yourself but protect your family, friends, and your community as well,” he added.
To register for vaccination, interested parties may call 1158 or send an email at [email protected].
To date, only Pfizer and Moderna have EUA for pediatric usage.
As the active ally of the government, PRC continues to strengthen its vaccination efforts.
As of Oct. 1, the PRC has vaccinated 284,869 individuals nationwide. In its 23 “Bakuna Centers,” there were 209,524 individuals vaccinated and 75,345 individuals in vaccinated in its 16 “Bakuna Buses.”
Out of the 284,869 individuals, PRC said that over 108,329 are already fully vaccinated.
