PH digital quality of life ranking soars 18 places to 48th globally

The Philippines ranked 48th among 110 countries in the latest Digital Quality of Life Index (DQL), climbing 18 places since 2020 and surpassing Indonesia.

The study, conducted by cybersecurity company Surfshark, covered 90 percent of the global population.

Evaluated on five fundamental digital well-being pillars, the Philippines ranked 20th in internet quality and 30th in e-security.

The country also demonstrated the fastest mobile and broadband speed growth annually.

Furthermore, the Philippines surpassed DQL Leaders New Zealand, Australia and South Korea in e-security, showing a 20 percent advantage over the global average.

The research likewise showed that the country has room for improvement in internet affordability where it ranked 72nd, e-infrastructure where it ranked 63rd, and e-government where it placed 67th.

The Philippines improved significantly in the span of three years, from 66th place in the first year of the survey to 48th in 2021.

The country likewise boosted its internet affordability by 156 percent.

"Our goal of digital transformation is finally being realized," Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Gregorio B. Honasan II concluded.
