OCTA: PH's COVID-19 cases down by 23% in the last 7 days

The country's reported coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases have decreased by 23 percent over the past week, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

He pointed out that the country recorded an average of 13,552 new COVID-19 cases from Sept. 29 to Oct. 5.

"The last time the country had a similar seven-day average was from August 14 to 20," David said in a tweet.

Moreover, the country's reproduction number further dipped to 0.77 on Tuesday.

"At the current pace, the seven-day average of new cases could decrease to less than 10,000 per day by next week," David said.

The Department of Health on Tuesday reported 9,055 new COVID-19 infections in the country, pushing the nationwide case tally to 2,613,070.

David cited that this is the first time that the Philippines saw four-digit numbers since the start of the Delta surge.
