Ex-Sulu representative runs for senator anew

Former Sulu Representative Nur-Ana Sahidulla on Tuesday, Oct. 5, filed her certificate of candidacy (COC) for senator at the Sofitel Tent in Pasay City.

This is Sahidulla’s second time to join the senatorial race as she also ran for a Senate post in 2019, but lost.

Should she get elected, she vowed to prioritize the generation businesses and jobs amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I will push for equal opportunities to all—even they are just high school graduates---they can have a job,” Sahidulla said after filing her COC.

In February 2019, the senatorial aspirant and her husband former Bangungui mayor Abulwahid Omar Sahidulla, have been sentenced by anti-graft court Sandiganbayan to one year in prison for failing to declare their property in their joint statement of assets, liabilities and net worth (SALN).

When asked by reporters, she maintained that the SALN issue involving her and her husband is “politicized.”

“What we did to make the case short that we pled it. But Allah knows that we are not that,” she said, referring to the SALN raps filed against them.

From 2010 to 2013, Sahidulla served as a representative of Sulu Province's 2nd congressional district in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao or ARMM.
