Eleazar on COC filing: Generally peaceful, health protocols followed

The filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) at the Sofitel Tent and at local Commission on Election (Comelec) offices is generally peaceful, Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said.

Eleazar was at the Sofitel Tent in Pasay City on Tuesday, Oct.,5, to inspect the situation at the filing area to ensure that health and safety protocols are being observed.
“For the past for days, including today, the filing in the whole of the Philippines is so far generally peaceful. Kumbaga, itong filing ay sinimulan natin ang ating political exercise sa filing ng COC at CONA (Through this filing, we began our political exercise through COC and CONA filing),” said Eleazar.
The PNP chief said that 581 police personnel are deployed at Sofitel Tent and around the area.
“Aside from them, we have 250 support units for the security of the area,” he said.
According to Eleazar, they are prepared should many aspirants troop to the area on the last day of filing on Oct. 8.
“It is orderly here, and health and safety protocols are being followed,” he noted.
He stressed that health and safety protocols should be always observed during the filing in order to safely practice the political rights of Filipinos amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
