Binays meet Lacson, Sotto ahead of 2022 polls

United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) stalwarts former Vice President Jejomar Binay and her daughter Senator Nancy Binay met Senators Panfilo Lacson and Vicente Sotto III amid the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the 2022 elections.

Photos posted by the Partido Reporma in its Facebook page Monday, October 4, showed the Binays speaking with Lacson and Sotto in what appears to be part of talks for a possible alliance for the upcoming polls.
Lacson, who will run for president, chairs the Partido Reporma, and Sotto, who will seek vice presidency, chairs the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC).
Former vice president Binay, meanwhile, founded the UNA while his daughter is currently its president.
Also in the meeting were former congressman Arnel Ty of the LPGMA Party List, and former GSIS president Clint Aranas.
The Binay patriarch earlier announced his plan to run for the Senate in next year's elections and join the Lacson-Sotto tandem's senatorial ticket.
"We welcome and are very grateful for the support extended to the former vice president by other political parties and for him to be invited to be part of their senatorial slate," UNA secretary-general and former congressman JV Bautista said in a statement on Tuesday, October 5.
Bautista, however, said that "nothing has been finalized yet" and that their party is still in talks with other political groups to possibly adopt senatorial candidates "who share UNA's vision and platform of government".
Binay is set to file his COC on October 7.
Leaders of the three political parties met last July to discuss the possibility of forming a "united Philippines alliance" for the 2022 polls.
Lacson and Sotto are also looking to sign an alliance with the National Unity Party (NUP), chaired by former interior and local government secretary Ronaldo Puno.
