Delta variant is a strain of SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes COVID-19 that was first detected in India in December 2020. The World Health Organization (WHO) assigned the lineage B.1.617.2 to the Delta variant.

As of Sept. 27, according to the DOH, there were 891 Delta variant cases in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Taguig City government reported that as of Oct. 3, there are 1,389 active COVID-19 cases in the city, including 271 new cases, an increase of 226 active cases from 1,163 listed on Oct. 2.

Taguig has 46,565 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 44,851 recoveries, and 325 deaths. It has also conducted 210,075 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.

According to Dr. Guido David of OCTA Research, based on DOH data, Taguig added 110 new COVID-19 cases on Oct. 4, placing 14th in the number of new cases among local government units (LGUs) nationwide.

OCTA Research classified Taguig as moderate risk mainly due to its 53 percent healthcare utilization rate. Seven other LGUs in Metro Manila were classified as moderate risk based on healthcare utilization rate, average daily attack rate (ADAR), infection and positivity rate.

Taguig is No. 6 in NCR based on ADAR of 26.46 and OCTA Research noted that the city’s one-week growth rate for COVID-19 cases decreased by 32 percent. Taguig’s infection rate is 0.74.

According to the Taguig City government, its total number of weekly cases decreased by 21 percent from 2,310 from Sept. 17 to 23 to 1,827 cases from from Sept. 24 to 30.

“We just don’t look at the number of cases but we look at the disposition of cases, what is the effect of this disease on an individual. We see that because of the quantity or high rate of our vaccination, the number of our severe cases, hospitalized cases is low as well as those who died of COVID,” said Mayor Lino Cayetano.
