Tropical depression "Lannie" made landfall over Bucas Grande Island in Socorro, Surigao del Norte at around 4:30 a.m., and Cagdianao, Dinagat Islands at around 5 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
In its 8 a.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, PAGASA said Lannie is already over the Surigao Strait and is about to make landfall in Southern Leyte.
Lannie has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph. It is moving west-northwestward at 15 kph.
PAGASA raised tropical cyclone wind signal number 1 over more areas due to the anticipated passage of the tropical depression.
Signal No. 1 is in effect in the southern portion of Masbate, southern portion of Romblon, southern portion of Oriental Mindoro, southern portion of Occidental Mindoro, northern portion of Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo Islands, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Capiz, Aklan, Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, northern and central portions of Negros Oriental, Cebu, Bohol, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, northern portion of Agusan del Norte, northern portion of Agusan del Sur, northern portion of Surigao del Sur.
PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy with at times intense rains may prevail over Visayas, Bicol Region, Mimaropa (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), and Caraga Region in the next 24 hours.
Light to moderate with at times heavy rains are also possible over Metro Manila, Bulacan, Bataan, and the rest of Mindanao,
"Under these conditions, scattered flooding, including flash floods, and rain-induced landslides are possible especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps," PAGASA advised.
Moreover, strong winds with occasional gusts will be experienced over most of the areas under Signal No. 1.
"The enhanced easterly flow north of the tropical depression may also bring occasionally gusts reaching strong breeze to near gale in strength over extreme northern Luzon and the coastal and upland or mountainous areas of the eastern section of Luzon in the next 24 hours," PAGASA said.
Based on the PAGASA's latest forecast, Lannie will move generally west-northwestward over the Visayas archipelago until Monday evening or early Tuesday morning, Oct. 5, when it is expected to emerge over the Sulu Sea and cross the Cuyo archipelago.
Afterward, it may make another landfall in northern Palawan or Calamian Islands on Tuesday morning before emerging over the West Philippine Sea.
"Throughout this entire period, Lannie is forecast to remain within tropical depression category, with a possibility of slight intensification once over Sulu Sea or West Philippine Sea," PAGASA said.
Lannie will likely leave the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday morning, Oct. 7.
