P32M worth of fake cigarettes seized in Bulacan raid

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized some P32 million worth of fake cigarettes in a raid in a warehouse in Bulacan on Sunday night, October 3.

CIDG Maj. Gen. Albert Ignatius Ferro said the operation also resulted in the arrest of four people, including 42-year old Chinese businessman Zeng Qiangjian.

Also nabbed were Lin Shanxiong, 48; John Bejay Agujar, 25; and Rodolfo Brosas, 25.

Ferro said the operation stemmed from a confirmed intelligence report about the location of suspected fake cigarettes in Balagtas, Bulacan. A raid was then mapped out which resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

Confiscated were more than 1,000 cartons of various cigarette brands amounting to a total of P32,305,000.

Aside from the contraband, authorities also recovered one Isuzu elf truck with plate no. CBJ 6630.

The suspects will be facing charges for alleged violation of Art. 189 of the Revised Penal Code, Violation of R.A. 7394 (The Consumer Act of the Philippines), R.A. 8293 (Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines) and R.A. 1937 (An Act to Revise and Codify the Tariff and Custom Law of the Philippines).
