NCR mayors now ready to vaccinate minor population

Metro Manila mayors are now ready for the vaccination of minors as the National Capital Region (NCR) has already achieved herd immunity in terms of inoculating the adult population.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos said Monday, Oct. 4, that Metro mayors "are very ready" and "very enthusiastic" about the pilot vaccination of the minors.

"They've been doing pre-registration for a long time already. It's just a matter of identifying those who have comorbidities and those in the list," Abalos said in a press briefer.

Metro mayors are backing the idea of inoculating their minor-constituents as 76 percent of the NCR's adult population have already been fully vaccinated. Metro Manila has around 10 million adult population.

It will increase to 84 percent by next month and 92 percent in December, according to Abalos.

The MMDA chair also said that Metro Manila's active and new COVID-19 cases are decreasing as the region's reproduction rate went down from 1.9 percent, the highest recorded during the previous months, to 0.83.

This became possible as Metro mayors continued the implementation of granular lockdowns to prevent the further infection in the communities, which have already reached 2,774 areas, 397 households, 88 condominium units, nine buildings and 25 compounds.
