‘Kingdom,’ ‘Itaewon Class,’ ‘True Beauty’ most mentioned K-dramas on Twitter


“Kingdom,” “Itaewon Class” and “True Beauty” emerged as the most mentioned Korean dramas on Twitter in the last three years.

During the MU:CON 2021 trade show, Kim Yeon-jeong, Twitter’s head of Global K-pop and K-content Partnerships, revealed the most mentioned Korean dramas and films on the platform.

The top 20 for Korean dramas and films were based on English tweets, gathered through text mining, from July 2018 to June 2021.

According to Twitter, the most mentioned Korean dramas from July 2018 to June 2021 are:

5. “Sky Castle” (2018)

She cited as an example the keywords related to “Itaewon Class.” She said, “If you get to the end, there’s the name of another drama. That is because V of BTS sang the soundtrack of ‘Itaewon Class.’ Related words are filled with that.”

“In conclusion, once you watch a Korean drama, you are so into it, you start watching other ones,” she said.

Regarding Song Joong-ki’s “Vincenzo,” she said, “We thought ‘Vincenzo’ did just okay in Korea. And had some fans in Asia. But that’s not the case,” adding that the drama had many fans in the US.”

“Twitter will put in effort to globalize more variety of content. Talking about K-pop, there are a lot of opinions, whether to start with idols or go back in time. I hope K-pop does not just stop at music. I hope it goes beyond drama, movie, webtoon, game, fashion and beauty,” she added.
