3 steps to prepare for a typhoon

As various parts of the country prepare for another weather disturbance, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) urged households in affected areas to be typhoon-ready.

After “Lannie” developed into a Tropical Depression (TD), the PRC on Monday, Oct. 4, proposed “three easy steps” to prepare the household during a typhoon.

1.Build a “disaster kit” that contains supplies for about three days.

PRC said that preparing supplies that would last for 72 hours would help affected families or individuals ensure that they will have the essentials that they need.

PRC said that the “disaster kit” should include: - a gallon of water per person per day - non-perishable food - a flashlight and extra batteries - a first aid kit, medications - copies of important documents - other items for young children such as diapers, and family members with special medical needs.

2.Come up with an emergency plan.

This, PRC said, would help the affected individuals to respond to any situation that might happen.

The emergency plan should be shared to everyone in the household so they would know what to do in case of emergency.

3. Stay informed and updated.

PRC said that listening to news and local authorities would help affected households to make informed decisions during the typhoon.

Based on the 5 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), a total of 14 areas remain under Signal No. 1 due to TD “Lannie.”

TD “Lannie” is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Oct. 7.
