Paris, here he comes.
Pole vaulter EJ Obiena signified his intention to qualify and compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics in a social media post Sunday.
“So many whys... But only one answer, I want it, that’s why!!! 999 days from @paris2024!” Obiena wrote on his social media accounts.
The post already garnered hundreds of comments encouraging him to strive harder following his debut stint at the Tokyo Olympics last August where he finished 11th place.
Shortly after the Olympics, the 25-year-old Obiena said he would be taking his time to reflect on his future plans. He returned to his training camp in Formia, Italy and recently took a few weeks of vacation from training while it was still off-season.
With the latest message, Obiena appears determined to have another shot at the Olympic medal.
He is currently ranked No. 6 in the world and holds a national record of 5.93 meters at the 17th Golden Roof Challenge in Innsbruck, Austria last September.
His feat also reset the Asian record.
