The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has formed special task forces (STF) to closely monitor tax compliance of online merchants and social media influencers nationwide.
BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay set up the STF in 24 regional offices to supervise the search and listing of online taxpayers compiled by the district offices.
The audit divisions in the national office under the large taxpayers service (LTS) will have their own separate monitoring teams.
Dulay also instructed district officers to require online business taxpayers to issue invoices, or receipts to their clients and keep books of accounts in Revenue Memorandum Order No. 29-2021.
Likewise, he asked tax officers to encourage colorum taxpayers to register their operations and pay the appropriate back taxes.
Dulay warned that taxpayers who would wilfully mis-declare their earnings will be charged with tax evasion.
He said the same policy applies to individuals and businesses that refused to report and register income from this source.
