PH records its highest one-day tally of COVID-19 deaths at 423

The Philippines confirmed on Saturday 423 new deaths related to coronavirus disease (COVID-19)-- the biggest single-day rise in deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.
Based on the Department of Health's (DOH) latest case update, the country's death toll has already increased to 43,044.
The DOH noted that "373 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation."
The previous record-high was last April 9, 2021---wherein the DOH reported 401 COVID-19 deaths at that time.
Meanwhile, the DOH also recorded 4,008 new cases of COVID-19, raising the total number of active infections nationwide to 47,690.
The active cases represent 1.7 percent of the country's overall tally which currently stands at 2,783,896.
Of the active cases, 74.4 percent are mild, 5.1 percent are asymptomatic, 2.7 percent are critical, 6.5 percent are severe, and 11.27 percent are moderate.
Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries already reached 2,693,162 after 6,887 new recoveries were reported on Saturday.
“Sa lahat po ng ating mga kababayan, huwag po tayong magpapabaya. Ang ating minimum public health standards ay sundin pa rin po natin ito (To all our citizens, let us not be complacent. We should still follow our minimum public health standards),” DOH Secretary Francisco Duque III reminded the public.
