Paranaque Mayor Olivarez cites police role in controlling COVID-19 spread
Paranaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez lauded on Saturday the police for their role in the implementation of the basic health protocols around the city, which is a great factor in curbing the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Olivarez thanked the city police force during the inauguration and blessing of the renovated building of the Paranaque City Police Station and the Bureau of Fire and Protection on Dr. A. Santos Avenue in Barangay San Dionisio.
He said the city police force under the supervision of Col. Maximo Frial Sebastian worked hard in enforcing the basic health measures around the city, which eventually stemmed the transmission of COVID-19.
As of Oct. 28, the City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) and City Health Office (CHO) recorded only 20 new cases of COVID-19, according to Olivarez.
He added that most of the 296 recorded active cases in the city are on their way to recovery.
The mayor said he wishes and prays that, with the help of the police, Paranaque City may celebrate Christmas this year with fewer COVID-19 cases.
The blessing and inauguration of the renovated police station coincides with the giving of recognition to the two retiring policemen -- Maj. Benedicto Balagtas and Lt. Jose Calamba.
