VP bet Bong Go vows to continue Duterte's war vs drugs, corruption

There would be no let-up in the government’s anti-illegal drugs campaign should he win in next year’s May 2022 elections, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said.

Go, who surprised the people by filing his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) as the Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Laban’s (PDP-Laban) vice presidential candidate on Saturday, Oct. 2, vowed he would continue to pursue the Duterte administration’s infamous war on drugs.

The senator said he decided to run for vice president in next year’s polls in order to ensure that he can continue most of the Duterte administration’s programs.

“Una sa lahat, walang tigil dapat ang kampanya natin kontra iligal na droga, korapsyon, at kriminalidad (First of all, there should be no let-up in the campaign against illegal drugs, corruption and criminality),” Go said.

“Ang taumbayan na ang humusga kung mas ligtas ba ngayon ang mga anak nila at walang pangamba dahil sa mga kriminal at adik (Let the people decide if they want their children to be safe against criminals and drug addicts),” he added.

Based on latest figures from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, a total of P64.09 billion of illegal drugs and equipment were seized by authorities from July 1, 2016 to August 31, 2021. In the same period, 893 illegal drug dens and clandestine laboratories were also dismantled, with 22,858 barangays out of 42,045 in the country declared as drug-free.

“Hindi dapat masayang ang mga nasimulang ito kung kaya’t sa susunod na anim na taon ay sisikapin nating lalong maproteksyunan ang buhay at kinabukasan ng ating mga anak,” he added.

Citing the latest figures from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Go said a total of P64.09-billion of illegal drugs and equipment were seized by authorities from July 1, 2016 to August 31, 2021.

There were 893 illegal drug dens and clandestine laboratories that were also dismantled, with 22,858 barangays out of 42,045 in the country declared as drug-free during the same period.

“Hindi dapat masayang ang mga nasimulang ito kung kaya’t sa susunod na anim na taon ay sisikapin nating lalong maproteksyunan ang buhay at kinabukasan ng ating mga anak (We should not put to waste this initiative that’s why in the next six years, I will try my best to protect the lives and the future of our children),” he stressed.

Should he successfully win in his bid, Go vowed he would not be a “spare tire.”

“I would be a working vice president...Asahan ninyo na ako ay totoong magtatrabao –hindi lang sa salita, kundi sa gawa (Rest assured, I will really work—not only through words but also through work),” he said.
