Team Rebisco yields to Saipa-Tehran in Asian Women's Club tilt

Team Rebisco failed to sustain its second-set triumph and yielded to Saipa Tehran of Iran, 26-24, 22-25, 25-13, 25-17, Sunday night at the end of the preliminaries of the 2021 Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand.

The Filipina spikers found their groove after falling short in the opening set, but lost steam in the last two frames as the Iranians regrouped and toughened their offense.

So tough were the Iranians in the third set that they limited the Filipinas to only four attacks while walloping 15 kills.

Rebisco, however, showed signs of life in the fourth set with Aby Maraño, Faith Nisperos and Dindin Manabat fueling the squad, but the Iranians were too much to handle.

Rebisco finished at the bottom of Pool B with three defeats including earlier setbacks from Kazakhstan’s Altay and Thailand’s Supreme Chonburi while Saipa Tehran notched its first win in three outings.

With the result, the Filipinas set up a knockout quarterfinal duel with Nakhon Ratchasima QminC on Monday after the hometown squad topped Pool A with a 2-0 card.

Meanwhile, Choco Mucho clashes with Supreme Chonburi in the quarters after finishing the prelims at the bottom of Pool A with a 0-2 card.

Supreme Chonburi, for its part, finished second in Pool B with a 2-1 mark following a 25-23, 25-12, 25-14 loss to Altay Sunday.

Altay, which topped Pool B with a 3-0 record, earned a quarters bye.

The other quarters pairing pit Zhetysu VC against Saipa Tehran.
