Possible smuggled luxury cars, P50-M coins discovered in QC

Several luxury vehicles believed to be smuggled and a haul of millions worth of coins were recently found stored in a house in Quezon City, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) said Saturday, Oct. 2.

"Possible smuggled luxury vehicles" such as Lamborghini, Nissan GTR, Ferrari, Ford Shelby GT500, Mercedes Benz, Karosserie, Ford Raptor and a Nissan Cefiro and the sacks of coins were discovered in a house located in Scout Tuazon in Quezon City.

The cars are estimated to have a market value of P100 million while the coins are valued at P50 million, the bureau said.

Armed with a letter of authority signed by Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, a team from Port of Manila's Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service Field Office (CIIS), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) inspected the house in Scout Tuazon on Friday, Oct. 1.

Guerrero said that the vehicles and coins were seized for possible violation of Section 1114 of RA10863 also known as the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA), BSP rules and regulation, as well as Anti-Money Laundering Laws.

Further investigation on the seized items is now under way, he added.
