Pharmally's Mago to testify before Lower House panel on Oct. 4

Krizle Mago, a pharmaceutical firm executive who went missing after testifying in the Senate against her own company, will testify again in a legislative inquiry but this time before members of the House of Representatives on Oct. 4, Monday.

Mago is now under the protective custody of the Lower House but is expected to participate in the Committee on Good Government hearing via zoom conference.

However, there is a possibility that she would personally appear considering that the venue of the hearing is also located at the Batasan Pambansa complex in Quezon City, where she is under 24-hour security protection.

Committee chairman and DIWA Partylist Rep. Michael Edgar Aglipay will preside over the hearing of the congressional inquiry into allegations of fraud and corruption in the procurement of over P8 billion COVID-19 supplies by the Procurement Service-Department of Budget and Management.

The Senate was the first to initiate the inquiry over a month ago.

Mago’s testimony on Sept. 24 before the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee stirred controversy as she admitted that her company, Pharmally Pharmaceuticals Corporation, has delivered to the Department of Health face shields that were past expiration period.

Pharmally, a company with a capitalization of only P625,000, has been suspected of overpricing the billions of pesos worth of face shields, face masks and other COVID-19 supplies it delivered to the PS-DBM last year.

Immediately after testifying, Mago was offered protection by the Senate but she no longer responded to calls from committee chairman Sen. Richard Gordon and efforts to locate here proved futile.

On September 30, Mago sought the protective custody of the House of Representatives through Speaker Lord Allan Velasco. She showed up at the Batasan Pambansa complex the following day.

Earlier, Aglipay and Velasco subpoenaed Velasco to appear before the the committee which will hold its next hearing on the controversy surrounding the purchase by government of over P8 billion in allegedly overpriced face masks, face shields and other COVID-19 supplies from Pharmally.

Aglipay immediately informed Senator Richard Gordon, chairman of the Senate Committee on Good Government, that Mago is currently under the protective custody of House sergeant-at-arms Gen. (retired) Mao Aplasca at the Batasan Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.

The House official assured Gordon that Mago will be available to testify before the Senate if requested by the senator.
