PH Red Cross urges more seniors to get vaccinated vs COVID-19

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) on Sunday, Oct. 3, is urging more senior citizens to get vaccinated against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In a statement, the humanitarian organization has expressed its strong support to the World Health Organization’s (WHO) campaign to get more Filipinos, particularly those in the A2 priority group, to get inoculated.

“Magpabakuna na kayo para mailigtas niyo ang inyong mahal sa buhay, ang sarili niyo, at mga kapitbahay, at ang inyong komunidad (Get vaccinated to save your loved ones, yourself, your neighbors, and your community,” said PRC Chairman and CEO Senator Dick Gordon.

Citing the WHO Philippines, the PRC said there are more deaths from cases of COVID-19 coming from seniors citizens.

Based on the latest government data, around 22 million Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, while over 4 million senior citizens or those belonging to the A2 priority group have received their second dose.

“‘Wag na kayo maghintay, pumunta na kayo sa aming mga bakuna center at mga bakuna buses para protektahan ang inyong sarili (Don't wait, go to our vaccination centers and vaccination buses to get yourself vaccinated),” Gordon said.

“Ang bakuna ay libre kaya wala nang dahilan pang hindi kayo magpabakuna (The vaccine is free so there is no reason not to get vaccinated),” he added.
