Former Senator Jose "Jinggoy" Estrada filed his certificate of candidacy (COC) on Sunday, Oct. 3, as he seeks to return to the Senate in the May 2022 elections.

Estrada filed his COC a day after his half-brother JV Ejercito, who is also seeking a Senate seat, filed his.
"Dalawang termino po tayong nanilbihan bilang senador. Doon sa labindalawang taon kong pamamalagi sa senado, nabansagan tayong isa sa pinakamasipag, ika nga one of the most prolific senators nung panahon ko (We served two terms as senators. During my twelve years in the Senate, we were called on of the most diligent, one of the most prolific senators during my time)," Estrada said.
"Tayo nakapagtala ng kulang-kulang 600 na batas. Halos lahat sa naiakda nating bills ay naisabatas na (We authored nearly 600 laws. Almost all of the bills I have written have been enacted)," he added.
The actor-turned lawmaker last served two terms as a senator from 2004 to 2016, the last two years of which were spent in jail due to plunder charges.
Estrada was released on bail in 2017 after three years in jail, but his P183-million plunder case remains pending.
He will be running under the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, which was also the party of his father, former President Joseph "Erap" Ejercito Estrada.
