Duterte supporters: With PRRD out of VP race, Sara may now seek presidency
President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision not to seek the vice presidency and retire from politics revived hopes of loyal supporters of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte that she will run for president next year.

President Duterte’s revelation on Saturday that it will be a “Sara-Go” tandem in the 2022 polls further bolstered the optimism of groups pushing for his daughter to seek the presidency.
“We were buoyed up by the fact that President Rodrigo Duterte did not pursue plans to run for Vice President thereby paving the way for just one Duterte to run for national office,” the Sara All Philippines 2022 said in a statement on Sunday, Oct. 3.
In the statement posted on the Facebook account of former actress Vivian Velez, the group remained hopeful Mayor Duterte will “answer the call of duty and the clamor” of the public for her to lead the country in 2022.
“The deadline for the filing of COC’s will still be on October 8, 2021. We look at this small window of opportunity for our big dreams for the continuity of reforms and good governance for our country,” the Sara All said.
The presidential daughter had previously declared she will not run for president and supported this decision by filing on Saturday her certificate of candidacy (COC) as re-electionist mayor of Davao City.
She had cited her father’s declaration to seek the vice presidency as the reason for staying out of national politics.
“Switching her COC is still possible, to withdraw her COC for mayor filed in Davao City and submit another one, this time a COC for President in Manila,” the Sara All group stated.
President Duterte flip-flopped about accepting the nomination of his political party, PDP-Laban, as vice president on Saturday, Oct. 2. He instead accompanied Senator Christopher “Bong” Go at the Commission on Elections to change his place as PDP-Laban’s vice presidential bet.
Go had also previously declared he is not interested in another national post in the 2022 election. He had, in fact, turned down a PDP-Laban nomination for president.
After accompanying Go to the Comelec, Duterte granted an interview with supporters where he announced that it will be a “Sara-Go’ tandem for 2022.
However, the chief executive said he had no idea when his daughter will file her COC for president.
“Actually, hindi kami nag-uusap ng pulitika (we do not discuss politics). Ever since we never talked about politics. I would say it is for the better,” Duterte said.
